About Anwar (Sid) Sadad
When I was a child, I was always curious. I tried to explore and experiment to see why things worked and what would happen if I used them in a different way. You might be surprised that I ended up breaking many things that I had no idea how to fix! My parents would look at me like I destroyed the world. They sarcastically asked, are you a DETECTIVE to inspect everything? Since then, I felt like a super kid and calling myself a DETECTIVE.
When I was in Grade 5, a big flood hit our city. A TV reporter said this happened due to heavy rain and would increase because of a changing CLIMATE. I looked at my parents and said, CLIMATE? They said, yes honey, it is because of climate change.
The next day, I asked my science teacher, Mr. Wang, many silly questions: What is CLIMATE? Is CLIMATE a President who ordered the flood? Why is the new CLIMATE angry? Mr. Wang said, calm down, Sid! Climate isn’t a person or a thing. Climate is like the weather we experience every day, but it changes over 30 to 50 years.
I asked, how will we know what happens after 50 years? He replied, there are CLIMATE DETECTIVES who find things out. I loudly said, I want to become a CLIMATE DETECTIVE to help people know about floods and hot weather in advance!
Today, I am a CLIMATE DETECTIVE. I know how climate changes and how to slow it down. Do you want to become a CLIMATE DETECTIVE so you can inform people as well about the changing climate?
If yes, then Hooray! One day you will become a CLIMATE DETECTIVE as well.
